we had a mini-circus reunion last night over peach icecream and crappy cheesecake.
alan calpe, famous for his calpe calisthenics, as well as his mindbogglingly beautiful
videos, is moving to nyc in about a month.

artist’s rendering. original image removed upon request.

he had us all musing on our favorite and least favorite things about the city.
some sample answers:

bigfoot.jpg

F. the food – especially some new places east of the bqe from where we are in
williamsburg – wombat and gimme coffee.

LF. the eternally effed up L train.

F. our garden – sugar snap peas still coming, eggplants, tomatoes and peppers on
their way. yesterday 13!!!! morning glories.

LF. the stagnant, oxygen-starved heat of the subway tunnels

F. how everyone you encounter is a star – amazing and successful in their field –
the guy whose mini greyhound plays with your dog is a curator at the moma,
the girl upstairs did make-up for the movie you just saw …

LF. how everyone you encounter is a star – amazing and successful in their field –
you better get your shit in gear, sister.

(the gorgeous circus photos at the top, were not, as you probably deduced,
taken by me and/or the ten dollar plastic digital camera that is my summer
fling. they were taken by the lovely and talented guy ambrosino
during one tour of cloud seeding circus in santa fe, nm.)

If you find yourself in Brooklyn this summer, be sure to visit Cinders for their second ever “Porch Show.” It’s a really wonderful summer group show organized around the treasured southern porch. I have 3 small illuminated sculptures in the show and they are in mighty fine company.

And I’ll have some small drawings in a Group Show at Little Cakes Gallery which promises to be very sweet. All the work will feature animals and the whole show is dedicated to a pigeon.

morning is a state of mind. it has more to do with proximity to wakelessness
then to the sun rising. it may be hotter later in the day, but brooklyn is
brightest in the morning. yesterday’s disappointments have been murdered
via muffling by the pale pink felt of sleep. the day is still full of
potential – for hard won accomplishments, for fellini-esque discoveries,
for windfalls and baby heartbreaks.

… today i will boldly cross the things off my list with furvor and a sharpie pen.
today i will make the new start, sing the new song.
today i will get my my shit together.

is this thing on?
Monday, July 9, 2007

every morning since i’ve started this, i have typed something in this space.
seconds later, i have deleted it. but this is monday morning.
my first monday in the ether.
today i hold my doubt in front of me and recognize it – like a relative.
i speak to it in the language of my relatives.

i say, “yo. doubt. whaddup?”

(it would seem that some of my relatives watch a lot of hbo and attempt,
rather feebly, to emulate the urban youth.)
